10 Mother's Day Gift Ideas

Updated: May 3

Mother's day is a special day. A day to celebrate the women that birth and care for children. These are our grandmothers, our mothers, our wives, our partners, our sisters, our Aunts, our friends... if you think about all the mothers you know, it's probably a lot. It's one special day to show these mothers some extra gratitude for all they do.

This year, 2020, is a big year. It's a year where schools have been closed, businesses have been closed, and parents have been sent home to care for and school their children, often while also working from home at the same time. If there were ever a year to go BIG for mother's day, this is it.

I have some gift ideas for you to show the mother in your life that you love her. If you are unsure of what she would like, see my post "Communicating Love Effectively". This post helps to understand your partner's personality and how they most effectively receive messages of love.

For the new mother

Do you have a partner or loved one who is a new mother? These ladies have more specialized needs and wants. This may be her first mother's day, so let's make it special. There are some excellent hand print craft ideas on Pinterest. I have some cute ideas Pinned on my page. If you click on the Pinterest link on my homepage that will take you to my page.

This cute frame is perfect for a new mother. If you have done newborn pictures you can put them on the side. It comes with the ink pad to do baby's hand and foot print without the mess of using paint. It is the perfect keepsake.

If mom is breastfeeding she will be thirsty all the time. A cute water cup is always nice for her to carry around. I remember always having a cup next to me in those hazy first few weeks of mommy-hood. And having a large cup will encourage her to drink more water!

She is probably not getting much sleep. If she is a coffee lover, a cute mug could lift her spirits. Also, how hilarious is this one? 2020 is sure to be a mother's day she will always remember.

For the mother with toddlers

This year the kids are not going to be in preschool to do hand print crafts. Cue your creative ideas!! There are great ideas on pinterest. Again, check out my board for some ideas.

One idea is to put your children's hand and foot prints on a white apron to make a garden scene. Any fabric paint will work. If you don't have any, this paint is good for the fabric, and here is a plain white apron.

Another cute hand print craft is to paint a ceramic pot. If you have acrylic paint they work great for this craft. Don't use washable paint, because when it rains, or the plant is watered, your beautiful art will wash away! If you don't have any paints you can use these paints, and this pot for this craft.

Hand made card

You could make the mom in your life a card handmade card. Seeing her child's scribbles and/or hand prints are sure to melt her heart. You could make a hand or foot print card by using the acrylic paints and a piece of durable paper. There are ideas to make the prints into animals, plants, hearts, etc. Reference my Pinterest page for ideas.

For the mother who needs to relax

My first idea is take care of all the cooking. All day. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks. And while you are in the kitchen, clean the dishes too. This serves a mother who responds to "Acts of Service" to show her love. Get the kids involved! It is good to teach the kids to take care of other family members. You could order her favorite take out if you struggle in the kitchen.

Relaxation gift sets- these gifts have everything included... perfect for the mom who needs an at-home spa day.

For the mother who likes to read

Kindles are the best. If she has a library card she can rent books from the library for free on her library's website. She can also buy the books she wants on Amazon to load immediately to her Kindle. Or you could get her an amazon gift card so she can buy some books that she wants to read.

These are just a few ideas to help you get started. Most importantly, there are days when parents do not feel appreciated. Mothers may put in a lot of effort for their family with little thanks. This is one special day to really show the mother in your life how much she means to you and your family. Make it count.

Be well.
